One of the most modern production and logistics districts is being created in Cologne-Niehl. The vision is to bring production and logistics directly together, optimising transport routes and handling processes.

At a glance

  • Total area up to 55 hectares
  • Job potential up to 2,000
  • Estimated completion Q4-2025 (for 1st phase)
  • Intended use offices (5%), manufacturing (15%), logistics (50%), light industrial (30%)

Fusion Cologne, located near the Niehl 1 and 2 Rhine ports, is the largest contiguous industrial development area in the city of Cologne. In line with the 'Cologne Perspectives 2030+', an innovative and sustainable industrial and logistics quarter is being created here. With the aim of achieving a high level of space efficiency, the concept also includes multi-storey logistics, production and commercial space. One of the sustainability goals is to completely eliminate the use of fossil fuels, including in the area of mobility: employees will be able to move around the entire site using e-buses, bicycles and e-scooters. Fusion Cologne offers an excellent platform for future growth for manufacturing and sustainability-oriented companies,' says Peter Trapp, Managing Director of Fusion Cologne GmbH. The planning is impressive not only because of its sustainable, cooperative overall concept, but also because of its first-class infrastructure. The direct, trimodal connection to the motorway, the railway and the Niehl harbour form an almost unique platform for meeting the requirements of the transport and energy transition. The first preparatory construction measures were started in the summer of 2023.

Sustainability features

  • Energy infrastructure: no use of fossil fuels through use of local heating network and decentralised heat pumps
  • PV systems
  • Long-term greening of facades
  • Efforts to use e-mobility/hydrogen
