Low-emission delivery and expanded car-charging infrastructure: Cologne startups Urban Ray and Chargeunity offer environmentally friendly logistics solutions. KölnBusiness supports both startups with the [Sustainable Innovations] funding programme, an annual funding line for innovative ideas.
Urban Ray is one of the first companies to use existing drone and ground station technology to reduce CO2 emissions and increase delivery speed in time-critical urban medical logistics.
An energy efficient, quiet and reliable interaction between the drone's batteries, rotor blades, motors and microcontrollers and the ground station is being developed and tested in pilot operations.
There is currently no drone product on the market designed for urban logistics and the associated regulatory and safety requirements.
CHARGEUNITY is the first company to enable private individuals to invest in their own public charging station for electric cars. As owners, customers can not only use the charging points themselves, but also recoup their investment in the long term by selling electricity to other electric car drivers.
However, until now it has not been possible for third parties to install charging points on public land. In order to meet the demand from Cologne, CHARGEUNITY is expanding its customers' charging infrastructure in the city on non-public land and is looking for owners of privatised parking spaces.
